Engineered, Not Cast
Unlike traditional iron rotors, carbon ceramic rotors are not cast, they are engineered through a multi-stage composite manufacturing process.
By combining carbon fiber architecture, high-temperature processing, and silicon carbide ceramic transformation, these rotors are designed to deliver:
- Exceptional heat resistance
- Reduced weight
- Consistent braking performance under extreme conditions
Manufacturing Process Overview
1. Carbon Fiber Preform
The rotor begins as a precisely structured carbon fiber preform, forming the foundation for strength, heat management, and durability.
2. High-Temperature Carbonization
The material is processed under extreme heat to create a stable carbon matrix capable of handling intense thermal loads.
3. Densification
Multiple densification cycles reinforce the structure, increasing strength, density, and resistance to thermal stress.
4. Silicon Carbide Conversion
Molten silicon is infused into the carbon structure, forming silicon carbide (SiC), the ceramic material responsible for the rotor’s hardness and heat resistance.
5. Precision Machining
Each rotor is CNC-machined to exact tolerances for proper balance, fitment, and braking consistency.
6. Quality Control
Every rotor undergoes strict inspection to ensure structural integrity, surface quality, and dimensional accuracy.
Why It Matters
This advanced manufacturing process results in:
- Substantial weight reduction vs. iron rotors
- Excellent resistance to brake fade
- High thermal stability under repeated braking
- Extended service life (when paired with proper pads)
- Performance capability suited for high-speed and high-power applications
Bedding (Break-In) Procedure
⚠️ Perform only where safe and legal. Sudden braking can be hazardous.
Step 1: Gentle Stops
20 stops from 30 mph (50 km/h) to a complete stop using light pedal pressure.
Step 2: Medium Stops
20 stops from 75 mph (120 km/h) down to 25 mph (40 km/h)
Apply approximately 0.4–0.5 g braking force.
Step 3: Heavy Stops
10 stops from 77 mph (125 km/h) down to 25 mph (40 km/h)
Apply approximately 0.6 g braking force
Target ~4 stops per minute
Step 4: Controlled Cool Down
Drive at ~50 mph (80 km/h) without braking for 15 minutes
Allow brake temperature to drop below 100°C
Important Disclaimers
- Professional installation recommended. Improper installation may result in reduced performance or component damage.
- Brake pads compatibility is critical. Carbon ceramic rotors must be paired with appropriate pad compounds. Use of incorrect pads may cause excessive wear, noise, or damage. We recommend the use of Pagid Racing RSC1, RSL29 and RSL1 pad compounds with our brake discs.
- Not designed for all driving conditions. Performance characteristics may vary in cold temperatures or daily stop-and-go driving compared to iron rotors.
- Track use disclaimer: While designed for high-performance applications, extreme track use without proper cooling, pad selection, and maintenance may accelerate wear.
- Surface appearance: Due to the nature of carbon ceramic composite materials, minor surface variations or cosmetic marks are normal and do not affect performance.
- Noise & behavior: Occasional noise (squeal) or different pedal feel compared to iron rotors is normal.
- Warranty disclaimer*: Limited Lifetime Warranty covers manufacturing defects only. It does not cover wear items, improper installation, misuse, track abuse, or damage caused by incompatible components.
- No liability: User assumes all responsibility for installation and use. SEVP is not liable for damages resulting from improper use, installation, or application.
Final Note
Proper installation, pad selection, and bedding are essential to ensure optimal performance, longevity, and safety of your braking system.
